New Year’s Resolutions in 2024

This year, we want to help you start a New Year with a New You and build sustainable habits that will stay with you beyond January. Our health and wellness coaches are here to guide you through the journey.
The start of a new year always brings with it the opportunity for a fresh start. It is the perfect time to set new goals and intentions, especially when it comes to your health and wellness. By prioritizing your health in 2024, you can improve your overall well-being and enjoy a happier, more fulfilling life. At Patient Advocate Match, we understand the challenges of sticking to your health resolutions. That’s why we’re here to offer guidance and support to help you stay committed to your goals.
Nutrition is a significant factor when it comes to our overall health and wellness. It’s easy to fall into unhealthy eating habits. With a coach, you can work on building healthy eating habits that fit your lifestyle. They will help you understand the importance of nutrient-dense foods and moderation. Having a coach with nutritional knowledge can help you make informed decisions and reach your goals more efficiently.
1. Set Realistic Goals and Make a Plan:
The first step in achieving your health and wellness goals is to identify what they are. It can be anything from managing stress, losing weight, or building muscle. Once you have a clear picture of what you want to achieve, it’s time to create achievable milestones. This is where a health and wellness coach can be beneficial. They will help you create a personalized plan to ensure you are taking the necessary steps to reach your goals.
The next step to staying committed to your health and wellness goals in 2024 is to set realistic expectations for yourself. Instead of trying to make major changes overnight, take baby steps and gradually build upon your habits. Break down your goals into smaller, achievable tasks and create a plan of action to help you stay on track. This approach will not only make it easier to stay committed, but it will also help you build momentum and stay motivated.
Start by making a specific goal, such as drinking more water or taking a 15-minute walk every day. Once you have achieved this goal, add another one. Small changes can lead to huge results over time. It is called “The Compound Effect.”
2. Find a Support System: Get a Work-out or Health Buddy.
One of the biggest struggles when it comes to health and wellness is staying motivated. It can be challenging to stay on track when life gets busy, or we face setbacks. Having a coach in your corner can help you stay accountable and provide motivation to keep going. They will be there to celebrate your successes and help you navigate any obstacles along the way.
Having a support system can make a significant difference in your health and wellness journey. Whether it’s a friend, family member, or coach, having someone to hold you accountable and provide encouragement can help you stay committed to your goals. Consider hiring a health and wellness coach to provide guidance, accountability, and support on your journey. Selecting a coach from Patient Advocate Match’s directory can ensure you find the perfect match for your needs.
Physical activity is a crucial element of any health and wellness plan. However, it can be challenging to incorporate a workout routine into our busy lives. A coach or a friend can help you customize a workout routine that fits your lifestyle. They can also provide guidance on proper form and technique, ensuring that you are doing exercises safely and efficiently. Sometimes a friend is close enough to you for you to say, “hey, got busy today let’s touch base tomorrow.” This is a little harder to do with a coach. They have slotted into a day and time, and it makes it a bit harder to back out.
3. Celebrate Small Wins:
Celebrating small wins can help you maintain your motivation and momentum. As you hit your health and wellness milestones, remember to acknowledge and celebrate your achievements. Even if it’s something as small as opting for a healthier snack or taking a 10-minute walk, celebrating these accomplishments can help you stay on track and committed to your goals.
It is important to celebrate your achievements, no matter how small. There is nothing more motivating than to see that weight drop a pound or two or that blood sugar go down first thing in the morning. What about the day you wake up and say, “I feel great today!” Celebrate all the wins no matter how small. Celebrate that good night’s sleep! The more little wins you have the more motivated you will be to keep on going!
4. Keep a Positive Mindset:
Staying committed to your health and wellness goals will require dedication, hard work, and patience. Remember to stay positive and focus on progress, not perfection. You are human, and setbacks are expected. Don’t let a minor setback derail your progress. Instead, use it as an opportunity to learn, adjust, and continue moving forward.
Staying positive is crucial when it comes to reaching your health and wellness goals. Positive self-talk can have a massive impact on your mental health, mood and motivation. If you have a bad day or slip up, be kind to yourself and remember that one mistake does not define your journey. You are in this for the long haul. Don’t make it about one day.
5. Make Your Health Routine Fun:
Your health and wellness routine doesn’t have to be dull or monotonous. Finding activities that you enjoy and that align with your goals can make it easier to stay committed. Whether it’s taking a dance class, going for a scenic hike, or trying out a new healthy recipe, finding ways to make your health routine enjoyable will increase the chances of sticking to your goals.
This is a little hack I do now that I am working from home. My goal is my 10k steps per day. I have a treadmill at home so no excuses! If I try to tell myself I am too busy, I remind myself that I can spare 15 minutes on the treadmill for about 2500 steps and doing this 3-4 times per day, boom! Got it done.
Family or friend step challenges can be fun too. We regularly do that with our family and let me tell you no one wants to be in last place at the end of the week. The feedback is brutal!
6. Focus on Sustainable Change
One of the keys to success when it comes to health and wellness is focusing on sustainable change. Making drastic changes to your diet and exercise routine can be overwhelming and difficult to maintain long-term. Instead, focus on small changes that you can maintain over time. Gradual progress is better than no progress.
Once again, small simple changes compound into BIG results. Rome wasn’t built in a day even though we think it should have been!
