DID YOU KNOW?

Each year in the U.S., over 12 million adults who seek outpatient medical care receive a misdiagnosis, according to a recent study by BMJ Quality and Safety. That translates to about 5 percent of adults, or 1 out of 20 adult patients!

In a Mayo Clinic study consisting of 286 patients, researchers found that only 12 percent were correctly diagnosed by their primary care physicians. More than 20 percent had been misdiagnosed, while 66 percent required some changes to their initial diagnosis.

Navigating our healthcare system and obtaining a correct diagnosis when you have a chronic, complex illness can be overwhelming and time consuming.

If you have been told by a Physician that you are a “complex case” or “I think it may be all in your head, “we need to talk!

Whether your health journey is just beginning or has been long term, I treat your concerns seriously at PURITY PATIENT ADVOCATES.

I work directly for you and know how to find the quality health care you need so that you can identify the root cause of your complex, multi-system condition. I will always serve as your trusted advocate; developing and maintaining honest relationships with you and your team of specialists.

“As a former invisibly ill patient who took years learning to advocate for myself in a fragmented, complex healthcare system, I can

empathize with your fears and frustrations.

I am passionate about collaborating with you and your

team of specialists to help you get to the root cause of your condition. I work directly for YOU and will leave no stone unturned in fighting for your patient rights!”

Q What is a professional or independent Patient Advocate?

A professional or independent patient advocate is an individual trained to assist patients and/or their loved ones navigate our complex healthcare system. An independent healthcare advocate’s primary commitments are to promote the health, safety, and rights of their patients and clients.

Retaining a knowledgeable professional patient advocate provides you with a wealth of resources, education, navigation, care coordination and peace of mind. An independent patient advocate is skilled at collaborating with your healthcare team and works on behalf of your best interests!

Please note that professional patient advocates do not replace your physician(s), make any type of medical diagnosis or provide medical advice.

Q Do you adhere to a professional code of ethics?

Yes. As a proud member of the National Association of Healthcare Advocacy, we abide by a Code of Ethics for Patient & Health Care Advocates.

Q Why should I choose PURITY PATIENT ADVOCATES to represent myself or my family members?

1. I work directly for YOU and not a health care system, insurance company, or hospital.

An advocate who works for an insurance company provides services that are limited in scope; and are NOT acting on your behalf.

2. I am highly experienced at collaborating with physicians, health care professionals and medical practice staff.

3. As a former patient who has “walked in your shoes,” I truly understand the roadblocks, fears and frustrations that patients face in our fragmented healthcare system.

4. I know how to find the quality care you are seeking and help you accomplish your healthcare goals.

5. I am ethical, transparent, and will fight for you to ensure your health concerns are taken seriously.

Q What is Integrative and/or Functional medicine?

Integrative medicine helps maximize wellness for people with chronic and complex diseases. It aims to heal the mind-body-spirit and combines conventional and complementary medicine practices. An integrative medicine approach to healing might include lifestyle changes, alternative healing modalities such as acupuncture or chiropractic care.

Functional medicine strives to identify and determine the "root cause" of complex, chronic disease.

The functional medicine model integrates our understanding of the human body, genetics, and external factors to identify and treat the underlying cause of disease.

The focus of functional medicine is on patient-centered care. Each patient is unique and and the physician forms a partnership with the patient. Each patient's history and past health is evaluated in great detail and is highly personalized.

Q Do you provide insurance claims and/or billing issues assistance?

We are able to provide support for basic insurance claim issues. If your case requires in depth expertise, we will be happy to provide referrals to a billing specialist practice.

Q Do you offer assistance with insurance authorizations and appeals?

Do you offer assistance with insurance authorizations and appeals?

"I am extremely grateful for Sylvia's help and highly recommend her professional patient advocate services."

Sylvia helped me see the possibilities that had been completely unexplored by several of my physicians and specialists while my health was taking a rapid decline."

I knew something was terribly wrong but not one physician ever explored or discussed the possibility of Lyme Disease. Through her in depth assessment, Sylvia helped identify areas that had been overlooked and never identified by my physician(s) during the past year.

I don't know what might have happened if Sylvia had not been there to help me obtain a correct diagnosis from a knowledgeable physician.

She is extremely knowledgeable on complex health conditions. She knows that many people are being misdiagnosed due to time constraints in our conventional healthcare system, as well as lack of training on how to identify the root cause of illness.

"Sylvia is genuine, empathetic and collaborative.

I highly recommend her to anyone who is anxious and/or doubtful about a recent diagnosis."

At age 22, I suffered from a cerebral hemorrhage while working out at a gym.

I was under the care of a neurologist for over 20 years before I started suffering various unexplained symptoms such as dizziness, fatigue, anxiety attacks and headaches.

I had seen a specialist in 2016 and thought I had a correct diagnosis. However, my symptoms returned in 2018 and worsened to the point where I was fearful of driving.

After meeting Sylvia, she questioned whether my symptoms should be investigated by another specialist. She took my health concerns seriously and fought as my health advocate to ensure I was properly diagnosed.

Sylvia helped me navigate to a specialist in the Atlanta area who diagnosed me with a condition triggered by my environment.

Sylvia comprehends the complexity of our health care system and understands how to guide you to the right physician and/or specialist team to find the cause of your symptoms.

"I have known Sylvia for several years and met her in 2016 when I was first diagnosed with Lyme Disease. Since that time, she has been my trusted “Go to Advisor” for health navigation concerns, including tick borne illness."

Sylvia taught me how to advocate for myself with physicians and health care practitioners. She possesses a wealth of knowledge and resources from her extensive research on health conditions.

I believe Sylvia will go the extra mile to help anyone effectively navigate the healthcare world; especially when you have a vast array of complex symptoms and are being ignored.

She is ethical, professional, compassionate, knowledgeable, and resourceful.

I highly recommend Sylvia as a private patient advocate to anyone who is frustrated, fearful and in need of seeking correct answers to unresolved health issues.
