Karla Wilson, founder of Music Therapy at Home, is a board certified music therapist with over 30 years of clinical experience optimizing the transformative power of music for clients with wide-ranging needs across the entire life span.  Providing exceptional, compassionate and convenient virtual music therapy services,  Music Therapy at Home fulfills Karla’s mission of connecting with those who may not otherwise have access to a music therapist in their community or those who need or prefer to receive services in their own homes.  She specializes in supporting those with dementia and other neurological conditions, those receiving hospice care and individuals experiencing grief and loss.  Having been a family caregiver multiple times herself, Karla is passionate about supporting the unique needs of family members in a caregiving role.

Q What does an online music therapy session look like?

Virtual music therapy sessions are completely individualized to meet the unique needs and preferences of each client. Music experiences may include singing, music listening, movement, instrument play, songwriting, lyric interpretation, guided relaxation experiences and other opportunities for creative expression. Music Therapy at Home offers sessions that are 30, 45 or 60 minutes in length.

Q What are the qualifications of a music therapist?

Music therapists receive the credential, Music Therapist–Board Certified (MT-BC), by The Certification Board for Music Therapists (CBMT), identifying that they demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to practice at the current level of the profession. Board Certified Music Therapists have completed at least an undergraduate degree or its equivalent in music therapy from an approved program, completed an internship of at least 1040 hours, passed the Board Certification exam and comply with continuing education requirements.
